Why Launch a Backyard Startup?
Now that we’ve gone into what exactly a backyard startup is, why would we want to launch one? Here is a short list that would be possible reasons:
- Prospect of financial freedom
- Be your own boss
- Flexible schedule
- Involved in the forefront of technology
- Current job is not holding your attention
- Frustrated with the current market offerings
- Lost/quit your job
- Turn a hobby into your profession
- Want to work hard on something that belongs to you
- Your company won’t accept your idea
Why did you launch your startup?

I have recently begun what you would consider a backyard startup. I had this idea one day while waiting for my food at a local carry out. It was like, “Heh I need to make this”. It has been a slow process, as I have done everything on my own. I tried to get a friend involved, but it didnt work out, and I am kind of glad. I have only myself top rely on. I made all the designs and business models and have recently outsourced the coding on Elance. It is all out of my own pocket. I have a full time job with a lot of travel and this I am really hoping to get the product into private beta in the next 30 days and gain some traction and start marketing.

I started (well more like ‘am starting’) my backyard startup because I would much rather be my own boss. I do fine with other people in charge but inside I really hate it so I figured that this whole ‘web 2.0′ thing was my chance at that.
By the way, thanks for taking the time to do a post every hour
Sounds like a difficult task.
